Luciana Braga, PhD, CPH
Thanks for visiting my website. I am Assistant Professor in Sport Pedagogy at California State University, Chico. My work is centered on the promotion of physical activity among young people. Particularly, I am interested in contributing to practices that decrease the social, cultural, and economical inequalities related to physical activity opportunities for children and adolescents.
I teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the Department of Kinesiology at Chico State. These courses focus on curriculum and instruction in physical education and physical activity promotion in schools. I am Public Health Certified and have a Ph.D. in Coaching and Teaching Studies from West Virginia University.
My research interest revolves around innovative and inclusive approaches to physical education and other physical activity programs in community and educational settings. Every young person should have equal opportunities to discover their moving bodies and find their "playgrounds", meaning the spaces in which they can move with confidence and enjoyment. I hope to contribute to developing such spaces though my scholarship and teaching.
This website contains sample of my work and resources related to physical activity promotion among young people. Hope you enjoy it!
It is difficult to escape the conclusion that in our automobile-, computer-, and television- dominated society, chairs and couches have more pull than swimming pools, playing fields, and gymnasiums. Physical educators have yet to show that they can turn this relationship around by transforming physical activities that carry minimal amounts of meaning into physically robust lifestyles that are genuinely meaningful (Scott Kretchmar)
