Assistant Professor in Sport Pedagogy
Department of Kinesiology
California State University Chico
Thanks for visiting my website. I am an Assistant Professor in Sport Pedagogy at California State University, Chico. My work is centered on the promotion of physical activity among young people. Particularly, I am interested in contributing to practices that decrease the social, cultural, and economical inequalities related to physical activity opportunities for children and adolescents.
I currently teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the Department of Kinesiology at Chico State. These courses focus on curriculum and instruction in physical education and physical activity promotion in schools. I have taught similar courses at University of North Florida as well as at West Virginia University, where I earned my Ph.D. in Coaching and Teaching Studies in 2014.
My research interest revolves around innovative and inclusive approaches to physical education and other physical activity programs in educational settings. I believe that every young person should have equal opportunities to discover their moving bodies and find their "playgrounds", meaning the spaces in which they can move with confidence and enjoyment. I hope to contribute to the development of such spaces though my research across two lines of inquiry: physical education teacher education and school-based physical activity initiatives.
This website contains sample of my work and resources related to physical activity promotion among young people. Thank you for stopping by!
